Fidget Spinners Claim Top Search Spots In ASI’s ESP

Searches for the popular stress toy soar

TREVOSE, PA – July 6, 2017 – Searches for the worldwide toy craze fidget spinners have claimed top search spots in ESP®, a product sourcing platform for the promotional products industry, according to the Advertising Specialty Institute® (ASI).

The business platform ESP boasts nearly 1 million promotional products, including fidget spinners – a toy marketed as a stress reliever and calming device that seized the popular imagination this spring and quickly moved from the retail space to a promotional item.

In March, the phrase “fidget spinner” ranked no. 676 of all products in ASI’s online search engine ESP. In April, the phrase jumped to the 10th overall ranked spot. In May, the item claimed the top search spot, falling slightly to number two in June.

“The promotional products industry is always quick to offer the latest, greatest products to their clients, and I’m sure we’ll see tons of logoed fidget spinners on the show floor at ASI’s Chicago trade show next week,” said Timothy M. Andrews, president and chief executive officer of ASI.

Available in different designs and colors, there are over 1,400 product results in ESP for fidget spinners, offered by 195 suppliers. The toy, which is used by kids and adults alike, is being compared to stress balls for their affordable price point and popularity, and to previous crazes like Pokémon Go.

“In general, the fidget spinners have done very well, and Prime immediately committed to millions of units of inventory and versions for customers,” says Jeff Lederer, CEO of Prime Line (asi/79530).

Chris Faris, president and CEO of Boost Promotions (asi/142942), said his company has supplied the toy to corporate and retail clients. “The retail clients buy hundreds of thousands at a time,” said Faris. “Some of their suppliers haven’t been able to get them, which opened up the door even more for us.”

Even politicians got into the action, with a Tennessee Republican gubernatorial candidate using them to raise money for his campaign. For a $5 donation on Randy Boyd’s website, supporters receive a red fidget spinner toy with the candidate’s logo emblazoned in the center.
