These are the current tariffs with impact on the promo products industry:

• China and Reciprocal Tariffs: In early April, President Donald Trump raised the tariff rate on imports from China. As a result, the president had added an additional 145% tariff rate on China in 2025. However, the U.S. agreed to reduce that additional rate to 30%, effective May 14, for 90 days. President Trump had also previously authorized a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs for most other countries, with that pause ending in early July. During this pause on reciprocal tariffs, levies on imports from most nations will be at the baseline duty rate of 10%. Reciprocal rates, if put back in play, are tailored to each affected country; all exceed the baseline rate.
• Legal Challenges: More than half a dozen lawsuits have been filed challenging many of the tariffs Trump has implemented in 2025. The suits ask the courts to strike down the levies. On May 28, the U.S. Court of International Trade ruled Trump lacked the authority to enact reciprocal tariffs, the 10% baseline import tariff and other levies. The court voided the tariffs. However, an appeals court stayed that ruling the next day, leaving the duties enforceable for the time being. 
• Steel and Aluminum: Trump has enacted a flat-rate tariff of 25% on steel and aluminum imports from all countries (up from the 10% aluminum import tariff set in 2018). These levies apply to millions of tons of steel and aluminum imports, including those from nations previously exempted. The 25% steel tariff was already in place for non-exempt countries. The president is now pledging to double the rate to 50% on June 4.
• Canada and Mexico: There's a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico not covered under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA)
• De Minimis Exemption: Effective May 2, the de minimis exemption for China and Hong Kong, which allowed imports valued under $800 per person per day to enter duty-free, was eliminated. Such shipments are now subject to applicable tariffs. A May 12 executive order indicates that includes a 54% duty rate, or $100 fee, for shipments sent through the international postal network. The rate could be subject to further change after 90 days but as of now is on the books.
• Chinese Ships: The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) said on April 17 that it will begin charging fees on Chinese shipping companies and other shipping firms that have China-made vessels in their fleets in 180 days. 
• Existing Tariffs: Tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars worth of imports from China, imposed during Trump's first term, remain in place. President Joe Biden, during his term, didn’t alter these tariffs. There’s a proposed bill in Congress, the ANTE Act, that would allow these Section 301 tariffs to be applied to products manufactured in countries beyond China, if the manufacturing operation is controlled by an entity rooted in a “nonmarket economy country,” of which China is one.

What are tariffs? Tariffs are taxes imposed by a government on imported goods and services. They are used to restrict trade, as they increase the cost of imported goods, making them less attractive to consumers compared to domestic products.

Who pays for tariffs? Companies importing products into the country are responsible for paying the levies, not foreign companies and foreign governments. However, the cost is often passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices for the imported goods.

What is the Country of Origin? The Country of Origin (COO) refers to the country where a product was manufactured, produced, or grown – not where it’s shipped from. It defines what duties and fees are applied, including tariffs.

When can a product be labeled as “Made in the USA”? The final assembly or processing of the product occurs in the U.S., all significant processing that goes into the product happens in the U.S., and all or virtually all ingredients or components of the product are made and sourced domestically.
