Opening a Business During the Pandemic

Screen printer Brian Baxter, who opened a brick-and-mortar location last year, discusses some of the challenges he faced.

Last year, when so many businesses were constricting – moving into home offices or shutting down completely – Brian Baxter of Akron, OH, went a different route. The screen printer, who had been operating out of his basement for the last two years, decided to open up a storefront, called Mega Lab Limited.

It was a bold move, and at first, Baxter was worried the strategy wasn’t going to pay off. The first few weeks, he worried that there was something wrong with his website or that his phone wasn’t working. He quickly realized, however, that he couldn’t sit around and wait for business to find him.

Baxter turned to social media, relying heavily on Instagram ads and other digital marketing strategies to drum up business and build his brand. In this episode of Promo Insiders, Executive Editor Theresa Hegel chats with Baxter about why he decided to take a chance on opening his business in the middle of a pandemic and the challenges he’s faced over the last year.
